Extended Hermeneutics – Historic futures shine a light on the present and offer ergonimicaly pleasing performances of resolution to our snarly personal problems. Or Re-poesis: undead art rises up again in the service of our inquiries.
Jennifer uses the sprawling meta-expanse of Bauhaus Imaginista as a divining system, individual readings are offered to those who desire them.
Chosen art works and concepts from the Nottingham Contemporary exhibition Still Undead: Pop Culture in Britain Beyond the Bauhaus are rendered to card form and read as a sort of conversational tarot. The reading addresses a problem posed by the audience member and through a discussion prompted by the cards, art works and art movements long concluded regain agency and independence and offer their advice.
This performance, between life coach and palm reader invests in the pleasure of reading removed from the necessity to arrive at a final definition of the sign that is read, affording the art works and the Bauhaus a level of autonomy, including their right to remain opaque and resonant even as we pursue the (delightful) desire for meaning and resolution.
